On Taketomi Island, the season of Shōman is quietly coming to an end, giving way to the time of Bōshu—the period of "Grain in Ear" when the summer transition deepens. The shell ginger flowers are slowly fading, while the island's plants and wildlife begin their transition toward summer. The southern breeze carries a noticeable moisture, and at night, the sounds of insects and owls drift through the air.
In this season of change, the evening light feels especially soft, wrapping the white sandy roads and red-tiled rooftops in a warm glow. From spring into summer.
